Cross Borders is a three-part body of work examining identity, migration, cultural exchange, and the idea of boundaries.

Pressed wood becomes both material and metaphor. Its raw, constructed surface references building, labor, movement, and making a place one’s own, while also connecting to my Latino heritage and my experience of identity existing across different environments and cultures.

Across the compositions, matte white and glossy black forms intersect, overlap, and move through raw architectural structures. They refuse to remain neatly contained within individual spaces.

That movement is intentional.

Rather than presenting cultures and identities as fixed territories, Cross Borders considers what happens when boundaries become permeable—when people, ideas, histories, aesthetics, and experiences cross into one another.

The three works function individually but become more meaningful together. The series asks whether identity must belong entirely to one place, culture, or visual language, or whether something more interesting can emerge in the space between them.
